Obama Youth ("City Year")

When I heard Obama’s speech, in July before the election, where he uttered these words .. “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security goals we’ve set. We’ve  gotta have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong,  just as well funded. “  I felt chills.  Not in the “yes we can”  sign me up to help out our country kinda  way.  But in an, oh my god, this sounds just like Hitler youth  kinda way.   That speech has always haunted me.  Now, here we are today just months after the inauguration and we have Obama Youth, better known as “City Year”, already in full swing in cities all across the country.

Last word

I just posted what will probably be my final comment on OEN- there or here.

I spent the years 1963-89 in Berkeley and saw much of the civil rights, anti-Vietnam and free speech action there. I also got very used to seeing certain people target the press and assume 'leadership' postures in what were essentially consensus activities.

 

Our culture and power structure are antithetical to real democracy, which is by definition messy. Opportunists and parasites are quick to co-opt whenever they can and dilute serious efforts. I imagine you know the ones I'm talking about: when movements were in they came in late to get some action, and fifteen years later you found them standing around talking real estate. The Democratic Party loved them.

 

It was inevitable that OEN would pull back from real issues and join in with the Corporate party's efforts to manipulate opinion and diffuse dissent. Safety valves are very helpful to the power structure...in other words you can have all the free speech you want as long as it is not effective speech. Once you have an impact, all bets are off.

 

It is definitely time for me to move on.

What I've Been Looking For

What I see here is what I was once told OpEdLose was. Discovered on November 4, 2008 that they were corporate owned whether they knew it or not.

Not sure which is worse selling your soul or being so distracted someone reaches in and takes it. What do y'all think? Person who introduced me was an old college friend who is owned by OpEdLose. If I ever hear from her again I'll have to ask her - LOL.

Never signed up cuz...not much of a joiner plus there were too many that were filtering The Truth. Then saw people were taking on Monsanto and I had some hope. Before I knew it some of my favorite commenters were disappearing...but here you are! I'm home.

I do hope I'm at the right place?  The directions they gave me was to make a right then a left, and as soon as I seen the eye of the needle, to just put the pedal to the metal.

 

I would like to thank those who put this site together. God bless you all. Freedom from the tyranny, where I hear everyone can post multiple dissenting viewpoints and not be banished for doing so.  Are we allowed to curse though? Words such as fornicate?  Please, don't mind my silly English humor.  And I promise they'll be no spam either.

 

If I could just take a moment to note that I am utterly appalled at the way some members at "OpEdSnooze" are depicting Rady.  One person that posted at Rob's inane, so called "Truth" thread was acting as though Rady were there.  However, she wasn't.  Extremely bad form.  Many posts were like that of the little children in the classroom, knowing their teacher would be out for the day, and having their way with the substitute.  It won't last too much longer though.  That's quite Obvious.

Once proud bastions of critical thinking and informed dissent are quietly transitioning into not so subtlety regulated echo-chambers for “topic positioning” of progressive discourse. It used to be that progressive and liberal “alternative” sites would pride themselves on the free and open exchange of ideas. That was before the run-up to the election and the muting of the far left that followed directly after “their candidate” won. Jim Hoffman has just published his essay ” A Hypothetical Blasting Scenario:  A Plausible Theory Explaining the Controlled Demolition of the Twin Towers Using Aluminothermic Incendiaries and Explosives with Wireless Ignition Means” in time for it to coincide with the new Jones et al piece, “Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe” and quite frankly, Hoffmans work is structurally unsound.
