Marine Veteran Critically Injured at Occupy Oakland March

Two-time Iraq war veteran sustains skull fracture from police projectile

Late last night, Scott Olsen, a former Marine, two-time Iraq war veteran, and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, sustained a skull fracture after being shot in the head with a police projectile while peacefully participating in an Occupy Oakland march.  The march began at a downtown library and headed towards City Hall in an effort to reclaim a site—recently cleared by police—that had previously served as an encampment for members of the 99% movement.

Scott joined the Marines in 2006, served two-tours in Iraq, and was discharged in 2010.  Scott moved to California from Wisconsin and currently works as a systems network administrator in Daly, California.

Scott is one of an increasing number of war veterans who are participating in America’s growing Occupy movement. Said Keith Shannon, who deployed with Scott to Iraq, “Scott was marching with the 99% because he felt corporations and banks had too much control over our government, and that they weren’t being held accountable for their role in the economic downturn, which caused so many people to lose their jobs and their homes.”

Scott is currently sedated at a local hospital awaiting examination by a neurosurgeon.  Iraq Veterans Against the Wars sends their deepest condolences to Scott, his family, and his friends.  IVAW also sends their thanks to the brave folks who risked bodily harm to provide care to Scott immediately following the incident.

Over 100 Arrested @ OWS Boston Including Veterans for Peace

Veterans for Peace had their American flag thrown to the ground and were beaten with batons and arrested by Boston police under cover of darkness in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.   It has been reported that several women were arrested and taken to an "undisclosed location" because the jails were full. ~jg  See a clip of the event below:

What a Sadist Looks Like

Why did this cop emerge out of nowhere to pepper  spray, at close range, a group of  skinny helpless girls already penned in by his fellow sadistic buddies in orange plastic fencing?  WHY?  Because he can!

I wonder if this creep has a wife and daughters?  I sure hope not.  (photo by David Dees)

Black Man Beaten By Police; Pen Pal Stabs Pal With Pen

"This is Not A Democracy"  -- Minneapolis Cop Richard Walker to Derryl Jenkins, Unarmed Citizen, February 19, 2009

Minneapolis police chief Tim Dolan believes his first responding officer was correctly following procedures during a routine traffic stop where the officer, Richard Walker, alleges Derryl Jenkins, a citizen of the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, had been driving 15 mph over the speed limit at 3am on a Thursday morning.  Jenkins refused any alcohol or chemical "interrogation" which could be used to bolster the Minneapolis Police Department's strong suggestion that Mr. Jenkins deserved the "thumpin'" he received at the hands of about six of Minneapolis’ finest.

In spite of Jenkins' refusal, the judge and prosecutor in the case both refused to let any charges stand against Jenkins given the seven stitches and probable facial fractures he received after he had been cuffed and tased multiple times.

I could almost be in agreement with Chief Dolan's assessment of his first responding officer with the exception of two minor details during what should have been a routine traffic stop.

Local COTO Boy Does Good- Becomes Movie Star

Hey COTO Family.

I just recieved this. In fact I do not even know how to produce the actual full screen shot. Perhaps some of you all could help me.

Anyway, now while this may not be as big time as Stephen Lesser on Faux Snooze (please note sarcasm)but it is still
pretty cool.

This is a documentary that some young people from Ohio put on about the RNC in St Paul last year. I was interviewed in it and you can watch the documentary here.

While some like Stephen Lesser and Rob Kall may get that
golden microphone, these kids went out and created their own. just like we are here. We do not need Op Ed Snooze, Faux Snooze or the Noow Yawk Times.

It is only 45 minutes, so enjoy.
