Aren't We All "Lookin' for America?"

Heard part of this song  on Alex Jones' show as part of a diamond gusset jeans commerical (made in america!) and really liked it.  Then today he played the entire song and it made me cry.  So, naturally, I had to post it.

  1. Thanks Deb. I sent this to an efriend who thinks living within the system is just fine....

Often the arts get thru when words utterly fail.

  3. Still out here...maybe not quite as active lately. Old age :)
and semi burn-out due to the world not following my directions.

I really do think the most effective things we might do are music, poetry, graphics. Language functions in a part of the brain that many have allowed to be co-opted (eaten). It's no accident that zombies and vampyres (the dead and the blood suckers) are our current national obsession. It's what we are.

  4. Burned out? tell me about it! Well, I'm glad you stopped by.

I agree. The old adage "a picture paints a thousand words" is so true. Songs and poems have a way of opening people's minds like no lecture could ever do. That's why it's so important to keep the arts alive. In a police state, along with freedom of speech also goes the freedom of expression through art. Figures. They have to stifle true creativity. Can't have anyone thinking outside the box now can we? You're right about the zombies and vampires. It's what we've become and just how the "evil ones" like it.

I hope your friend is moved by the song as I was. One little victory at a time is the most we can ask for.

  6. Hey Jersey I'm a bit of a country fan myself, Check out John Rich-"Shuttin Detroit Down" and Darryl Worley-"Keep The Change". These are two great ones to help open someones mind!!

  7. Continueing from above...
Darryl Worley has a couple great ones like "I Just Came Back From A War" kinda about how these troops are coming back all screwed up from this war based on LIES. "Keep The Change" is one of his newer ones, I think its maybe directed toward Barry if you know what I mean.

  8. I won't ramble on about this but I will say I'm proud to see a few of our country stars stand up for the right things no matter what the reasons are there putting it out there.(Very few of them though)

  9. I wish I knew how to insert those songs to this comment/post from my laptop but I don't. they are pretty good! Also check out Big-n-Rich (Big Kenny and John Rich) "8th Of November". It has Kris Kristofferson explaining in the intro what the song is about which is a Vietnam battle on the 8th of Nov.

  11. There once were some men from Yale
who decided to start weaving big tales
    They bought up the papers
    TV and other news capers
and now they're too big to fail ~ PD

  12. Personally I stopped "Lookin' for America" when I found her glowing green corpse in a Louisiana swamp in 1967. The gaters didn't even want a bite.

Far as 'Country" getting down with it: Black Ribbons says it best to me...Shooter Jennings crosses the genre barrier.

  14. I like the song about shuttin' down Detroit even if it was a bit hokey at the end with the sofa and Kris havin' a heart attack. It shows what's really going on in Amerika with our work force.

As for the others, I didn't get the impression from them that war was bad but more that you watch out for your buddy in battle or that the people "over there" don't appreciate our being there. Maybe I got it all wrong though.

  15. Will, you just reminded me to order that black ribbons album by shooter..thanks.

The (Bill) Gates of Hell Foundation
    Tuesday, January 04, 2011 6:51

Gates declares, “First we got population. The world today has 6.8 billion people. That’s headed up to about 9 billion. Now if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we lower that by perhaps 10 or 15 percent.”
It’s a package deal – wrapped in a philanthropic façade – and it comes with strings attached.

What's remarkable is how blatant they've become about the subject.

  20. I love the sincerity of all the tunes posted here. But I.......
Lord Buckley said it. "I worship people....i worship that which i can get my arms around....that wraps me up back."
and as we all know.....Lennon also...."Imagine there's no country...."

    It ain't easy.....

    No grails...

    peace please.

  21. Hi Mikel :) For me the song "looking for america" isn't literal. It's about the feeling of sadness that the things that make you feel safe and secure in your life have or will be taken away. People are losing their jobs and their homes and everything they worked their entire lives for. The police state is closing in and everything we say and do is monitored. We read about Nazi Germany in history class and couldn't believe that people could let it happen and we're letting it happen here.

This is not the country I grew up in and this is what that song is really about... It's got nothing to do with nationalism. At least not in my interpretation.

Yes of course I understand the feelings you note about these artful tunes not truly being about nationalism. There is a great multiple choice emptiness and sadness that is driving so many of us and our families to reconsider much as this transformation does its thing sans empathy of any kind.

    I applaud all artful expressions.

My personal expression is that our definition of who we are is always fragile, and even more deeply so when we are left unloved, which in my opinion is what much of this is about. It ain't healthy for ALL of us. The worstest of the worstest assholes are the most deeply pained, they just don't realize it yet. They will.

To go home you must own it.

    Sorry, I'm a mush.

    peace
