  1. Forty-eight years ago in 1961, it was a few months before my eighth birthday and John Fitzgerald Kennedy was running for President of the United States of America.

I can vividly remember, it was the weekend and my parents hurrying me to the corner of our block of what was once an Irish Catholic neighborhood in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, Pa., in great anticipation of the arrival of John F. Kennedy.

Many neighbors had gathered at the corner, I remember it being very noisy, everyone was so excited. First were the red police cars leading the way ahead of JFK's convertible limo that was traveling North and at a slow pace on this very small Philly street. People were screaming, some crying and in an instant there he was for everyone to see.

I was only young, but what I remember most was seeing the huge black automobile, and JFK sitting inside, his thick dark brown hair and him smiling and waving enthusiastically to the onlookers.

Sadly, two years later I was nine and had just come out from the elementary school where I attended, a few blocks South on G. Street where I had seen JFK and where I would first hear of his tragic death.

And so here we are, forty-six years since his horrid assassination, and nothing's changed! JFK knew the obvious and he paid the ultimate price.

Talking is cheap, people follow like sheep. Silence isn't golden!
