WASHINGTON, D.C. - There's more talk on Capitol Hill about requiring all U.S. citizens to carry a worker ID card before getting a job. It's part of a major overhaul of immigration policy, and the plan could go before President Obama as soon as this week.

All U.S. citizens would be required to carry an ID cards according to this plan. It's meant to keep companies from hiring illegal immigrants. No matter where you apply for a job, under the plan, you would have to have a card carrying bio-metric information on a microchip. It's like your fingerpints, or a scan of the veins in your hands.

The ID cards would basically prove you are who you say you are, and that you are a legal citizen of the United States. The program is being pushed in the U.S. Senate by Democrat Chuck Schumer (D- New York), and Republican Lindsay Graham (R- South Carolina).

I get asked all the time if I believe that peace is really possible.

When you look at U.S. foreign policy throughout the last dozens of years, we've been involved in one military adventure after another that would defy the concerns of people and the ability of this nation to create peace. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan - three wars, which collectively have had an enormous impact on our nation and collectively have left a stain on this country's reputation in the world.

We need to take a new direction and tomorrow is exactly the opportunity that we should seize to take a direction out of Afghanistan and in a new direction with our international policy.

We need to challenge the thinking that the only way that we can change people's minds is to conquer them militarily. We need to change direction and use diplomacy and put a premium on diplomacy no matter how long diplomacy takes to keep using diplomacy.

We can insist on our nation defending itself, but our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan have not made us more safe; it made America less safe. Because every occupation fuels an insurgency and creates resentment, particularly when innocent people are killed.

It's time for America to take a new direction. So contact your member of Congress and let them know what you think about the Afghanistan resolution. Let them know tomorrow is a chance that we have to be able to take a new direction. We need people's voices and their votes on H. Con Res. 248, the concurrent resolution which will take us out of Afghanistan.

Please join our efforts. Please sign the petition. And please be part of this growing effort to create a resurgence in the peace movement. The first opportunity that we have will be the vote on Afghanistan tomorrow.

United States (Country threat level - ): The U.S. Department of Defense building was put on lockdown on 4 March 2010 after a shooting incident at a Metro station connected to the complex. Police officers stated that a lone gunman entered the Pentagon Metrorail station at approximately 1840 local time (2340 UTC) and opened fire on Pentagon police officers. The suspect suffered several gunshot wounds before officers were able to bring him into custody. The assailant was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Two officers were also hit in the exchange of fire and are expected to make a full recovery. The entire Pentagon complex was put on lockdown. The alert was lifted after about an hour, and personnel were allowed to exit the building. Police officials stated that they have not yet determined the suspect’s motive, although unconfirmed reports have indicated that the gunman may have harbored resentment toward the U.S. military over what he believed were conspiracies surrounding the 9/11 attacks.

 Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas was placed on lockdown Friday with nearby streets closed, according to local reports.

Base spokesman Eugene Hill said the main gate was closed and the base was put on lockdown about 3 p.m., according to the Las Vegas Sun. It remains unclear what has caused the lockdown. Metro Police spokesman Bill Cassell said officers are assisting with traffic control in the area. Nellis is the location of the United States Air Force Warfare Center and is a major training location for both U.S. and foreign military aircrews.

New research in the journal American Behavioral Scientist (Sage publications, February 2010) addresses the concept of “State Crimes Against Democracy” (SCAD). Professor Lance deHaven-Smith from Florida State University writes that SCADs involve highlevel government officials, often in combination with private interests, that engage in covert activities for political advantages and power. Proven SCADs since World War II include McCarthyism (fabrication of evidence of a communist infiltration), Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (President Johnson and Robert McNamara falsely claimed North Vietnam attacked a US ship), burglary of the office of Daniel Ellsberg’s psychiatrist in effort to discredit Ellsberg, the Watergate break-in, Iran-Contra, Florida’s 2000 Election (felon disenfranchisement program), and fixed intelligence on WMDs to justify the Iraq War.1

Other suspected SCADs include the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald, the shooting of George Wallace, the October Surprise near the end of the Carter presidency, military grade anthrax mailed to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy, Martin Luther King’s assassination, and the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 on September 11, 2001. The proven SCADs have a long trail of congressional hearings, public records, and academic research establishing the truth of the activities. The suspected SCADs listed above have substantial evidence of covert actions with countervailing deniability that tend to leave the facts in dispute.2

The term “conspiracy theory” is often used to denigrate and discredit inquiry into the veracity of suspected SCADs. Labeling SCAD research as “conspiracy theory” is an effective method of preventing ongoing investigations from being reported in the corporate media and keep them outside of broader public scrutiny.
