  1. COTO members and editors,

I am having a problem with the password situation.

When I write something for private viewing of COTO members only, that is all who should have access to it.

Former members should not walk away with the current passwords. If someone quits, the password should be changed.

I did not have a problem with the password Patrick chose, but he chose to post the password and I could not believe that it was posted. And after thinking about it I realized former members also have that password and I want this changed as soon as possible.

Passwords are suppose to be secret, and in my opinion they should be passed around to members only via email and NEVER posted on the site anywhere.

I stated in two locations that if anyone wanted the password to please email me and several did. I had originally sent the password I chose around via email to everyone who's email address I could find, but I did not reach all members.

At this point I feel like I have no control over what I write or who reads it. I have no idea who or how many have access to those blogs and this not acceptable to me.

I only said those things so long as they are kept strictly private and confidential and if I can not have some control over that then my mouth is shut and I do not want that info out there or to discuss any of it any further.

I feel like I am trying to go to sleep with the windows open, the front and rear door unlocked. I am uncomfortable with the common password openly posted and known to former members.

So at this point, if Patrick wants to use a "common" password, then I would like for there to be a new password which is only known to members only and it should never be posted anywhere on this website. It should be sent to everyone in email form in private only.

I do NOT want for any former members to have the password.

If I had my way then I want for the writer to control their own password. Simply email them for the password.

I hope others will voice their opinion on this subject because I think it needs to be democratically discussed and agreed upon to the satisfaction of all members.

  2. I have tried to discover your email address, to request the password in order to read your two most recent articles, but don't know where to find it. it seems it should be listed under your name, the page that displays all your articles, but it is not. I checked my email yesterday and have not received a password from Paddy (as of then) either.

I checked my email yesterday from home and have not received a password from Puddy (as of then) either. I also can't access my hotmail account at work (where I read most of the articles) as our UNIX system browsers are not updated frequently enough to work with the newer hotmail format.

  4. Levin, did you say democratically? There is no democracy!

As for the password. Patrick said to use the member password we already have. That should be good enough. Members will always come and go. That cannot be helped.

If you're worried about that, then perhaps you shouldn't post material that you feel is ultra sensitive. Maybe you should share your info through email with those interested instead.

  5. Somebody who is insecure like Levin should consider not using free forums, the normal basis for COTO discussion, and secondly to realize he is not nearly radical or sensitive enough in his thought product to warrant so much bother.
